Macashowen Arabians is a North American Riding for the Handicapped Operating Center. We provide therapeutic riding for individuals with special needs and offer a full range of traditional training programs and services.

Located approximately three miles off Volcano Highway (11) in the Mt. View area. Our facility consists of two 4-stall barns, stallion enclosures, a foaling/medical procedure stall, both outdoor and indoor arenas, office/tack room, and a visitor waiting area. The facility grounds house between 8 and 10 Arabians. An Arabian's easy-going temperament and smooth gait are terrific for beginning riders.

Our goal at Macashowen Arabians is to provide our students with the safest, most enjoyable equine education possible. To ensure this, we require all instructors to be instructor certified and trained in CPR and First Aid. Volunteers must be trained in CPR and First Aid as well. We at Macashowen Arabians take pride in the cleanliness, organization, and professionalism of our facility. We strive to provide each individual with an environment and services commensurate with his or her needs.

Understanding Therapeutic Riding
Therapeutic riding uses equine-oriented activities for the purpose of contributing positively to the well-being of people with disabilities. Therapeutic riding provided benefits in the areas of therapy, education, sport, and recreation & leisure.

As a consequence of participation in riding therapy, the student will develop:

The ability to locate and identify appropriate parts of the horse's body and transfer body localizations to self and others.

General physical fitness through performance of physical tasks with and for the horse.

An understanding of the principles of personal health and hygiene and equine health and hygiene.

Experience stimulation of the inner ear through the natural movement of the horse thereby improving his/her balance and rhythm.

The ability to move and direct the horse within a given area and will understand and respond appropriately to right, left, up, down, forward, and backward.

Sensory awareness and integration both from the stimuli elicited by the horse and through the challenge of executing specific motor tasks.

Ability to use judgement and reasoning in riding and working with the horse and related equipment in preparation for meaningful employment.

Awareness of time concepts and will develop the ability to perform tasks in sequential order.
